High Voltage

Heritage of Innovation

CRBN² is based on a project to produce headphones for use in MRI machines, between Audeze and a team from UCLA School of Medicine. Due to the powerful magnetic fields of an MRI, the headphone could not use ferrous metals, so researchers developed the carbon nanotube film electrostatic driver.

"As an electrostatic fan going all the way back to my first set of STAX SR 5's, the CRBN2 strikes me as a product that totally redefines what a state of the art electrostatic headphone should be. Rather than the somewhat thin bass and tilted up midrange and top end found in most electrostats, the CRBN2 presents a subjectively ruler flat output with virtually zero audible distortion, and bass that effortlessly extends to the very lowest frequencies. It's an absolute thrill to listen to them. Expensive for sure, but if you can afford them, you will have reached the pinnacle of headphone performance."

"First of all, working with Audeze was a real pleasure. They kept me informed about all the steps I needed to take to get my CRBNs upgraded to the CRBN2, which I appreciated. As far as the headphones go, I am more than impressed with the outstanding response from the latest version. I did my homework from the moment the new model was coming out. I loved my CRBNs, but when I thought their sound was improved, I was hooked. The soundstage and speed is still outstanding, they didn't just improve the bass. The SLAM technology comes through as crisp and clear as it could be. I had no need for my Schiit Lokius EQ and plan to sell it soon. Overall, I couldn't be happier with my upgrade. The $995 price tag is insanely low for what you get. A+."
