"The definition and depth that you’re able to experience in the MM-520 is, in a word, UNBELIEVABLE! Whether checking mixes or starting them away from the studio, the MM-520’s make you super confident to be able to push the what is required, over the line…. I own the LCD-X’s but these blow them away for accuracy in my opinion. Well done Audeze and Manny. Straight up ridiculous! 5 Stars all day long."
"I’d always just used low to middle of the road industry standard headphones for tracking or maybe listening for small technical problems in a mix. When tracking I’d make an eq or compression move and it would sound drastically different on my monitors. The mm-520’s allow me to make critical decisions whenever they’re being used. Their exceptionally accurate frequency response allows me to utilize them for heavy mission critical mixing duties and reveals dull or uninspired mixes immediately. I baby them but I’m not afraid to break them. They’re hefty but I don’t mind wearing them for a whole session. For those worried about bleed from the open backs, if you’re not blasting them, it’s really pretty negligible. I wouldn’t use them to track vocals but use them often to produce vocals in the same room without any problems. For those who are on the go with mobile recording and mixing these will eliminate guess work and save you precious time. Great life/process-changing product."
"I've been following the Audeze brand for over a decade. I was tempted by the LCD-X/LCD-XC, but they were not exactly what I was looking for regarding fit and tonality. The LCD-MX4 was definitely closer, but a little more than I wanted to spend. The MM-500 looked very interesting, but I didn't act on it. Glad because I think the SLAM technology in the MM-520 made it worth the wait. The weight and fit are perfect for my head. There's enough space in the ear cups that I can slide them slightly forward, which seems to open up the soundstage a bit. I feel like I have super hearing when I'm listening to these things. They deliver detail in a completely non-fatiguing way. I find myself constantly getting to the end of an album and not knowing where the time went because listening is so effortless. They are, perhaps, not the last word in air or sparkle and can sound a little rolled-off compared to other headphones in my collection (Sennheiser HD600/650, Grado RS2e, E-MU Teak, Focal Radiance), but the mids are glorious, and the bass is deep, articulate, and perfectly integrated. Folks talk about adding a low shelf, but I've not found a need for my listening. Highs are present and detailed while never being glaring or sibilant, even in brighter-sounding recordings. On the high-frequency reproduction, I'm not completely sure the presentation is honest. I am not an audio engineer, but if I were mastering with these as the reference, I might tend to create recordings that translate as brighter than they should. This kind of decision-making probably comes down to experience more than gear, though, so I'll leave it to the pros. For me, these are, by far, the best-sounding headphones I've owned and ones that I return to daily. I'm using them with balanced cables from Hart Audio since these are a more appropriate length for my desktop setup and are very comfortable."
"I'm a long-time Audeze user and have had many models over the years, and there were times when I couldn't decide if I like the LCD-5s or the MM-500 more. Now with the MM-520 that decision is even tougher. I didn't really think there was room to improve on the MM-500 but they found a way to do it. These sound incredible, and feel really incredible to wear as well. Best in class."
