LCD-MX4

"Excellent headphones and very reliable for all around music production."

Aldo S. (5/5)

Amazing Headphones!

"I love my Audeze! My mixes are light years better now and I can hear everything perfectly! Very impressed!"

Treavor W. (5/5)

Could be perfect

"This was the best headset I've ever listed to until I listed to the LCD-4z. They are very close. The 4z has a bit more resolution. Musicallity is another factor and the MZ4 could be a better choice for some music where detail is problematic."

John A. (5/5)

Wearing Truth on my head.

"I first heard the LCD-MX4 at NAMM in the Audeze listening booth. Compared to the LCD-X, I decided to invest in something that was lighter and better suited for longer wear. And the high end sounded silkier, more open, more spacious to me. I felt as if the bass had more detail. I could feel the bass in my neck, it just seemed to extend deeper. At home I listened to Underworld’s Dark and Long and even though I have been hearing the track for 30 years, I discovered a stereo bass-drum echo that had been there all along but beyond my observation. I jumped to my studio monitors to try and “find” the sound and I really started to appreciate just how detailed these headphones are. It was a revelation and it promoted me to listen to a lot of older music. Lyle Mays, Steve Reich, Radiohead, Tomita, A lot of pipe organ recordings (like by Peter Michael Hamel), modular synths and my own previous work. I quickly bought a queststyle DAC to use with my phone though the MX4’s worked just find with a simple USB-C to Headphone adaptor or right out of my Teenage Engineering TX-6 mixer. Or out of a synth. Very pleasantly surprised. I prefer to compose music while in the middle of the sound field so I wear them if I’m playing external synths and am offset from my monitors. My music is very bass-heavy, with contrabass string samples often competing with 3 or 4 layers of Oberheim basses. Once I began mixing with them I realized I was able to solve for difficult energy balances that had previously eluded me. I’m not an engineer but I like placing instruments inside the mix while I compose because so much of my music is about texture. I’m a fan of minimalism in music but my own music can sometimes be a massive wall of sound. And I want to hear everything. I find that the MX4’s are like wearing truth on my head. I very quickly learned them and was able to get car mixes to sound right with much less trips to the garage. Cons: Why not 5 stars? As brilliant as the drivers are, the design of the headphones themselves could be improved, at least for my head. By now there’s irrefutable evidence that the crown of the head is sensitive to pressure and most manufactures have created padding so that the top of the head sits in a relief. Here, I feel that the Audeze product designers may be anchored by a design orthodoxy that might be hindering comfort. I’ve had to shorten the leather strap and am considering adding padding so that the crown of my head is not carrying the entire weight of these things. Including optional pads in the box would be a nice touch so people with my haircut don’t have to DIY. I use my MX4’s for composing, mixing, and getting inspired by other people’s artistry. I like them so much I sometimes wear them in bed when I’m winding down just to get into someone else’s mastery. The headphones have helped me develop a much deeper respect for engineers and producers who bring nuance and detail to their work. I also like looking like a retro-future astronaut on Zoom calls. :) Special thanks to the Audeze team who already feel like family. What a great group of people. Makes sense."

One of the very best professional tools I've used

"Detail resolution is stunning, lows are phenomenal. Work on these cans translates every time, and decisions are easier to make. The sonic presentation is musically beautiful, to boot. For me, they're also comfortable. This is one of the best purchases I've ever made."

Drew (5/5)

Just Amazing

"Wow! I've been looking for a pair of headphones that I can trust. I love mixing and mastering on headphones because I like to listen to the details. Good monitors can do this too, but they are usually in the $15 to $20K range. I own Beyer 990 and 770, Senn HD 650, Focal Listening Pro, Sony MDR 7506, and OLLO S4X. These are pretty common headphones. Among them I like HD650 and OLLO S4X most, especially the OLLO ones. I was skeptical about Audeze, but I learned more about the company and her products lately. The reason was because my instructor mentioned his 2022 favorite headphones, which is the Audeze MM500. Yet I bought the MX4 because it has bigger driver and double fluxor thingy, aha! Besides that, the website has the studio photo with these headphones, so I believe they are made for this purpose. I was very skeptical at first because the price is high and thought about how to return them if I don't like them. Upon their arrival, I tried them on right away and immediately I was blown away. The sound is crystal clear and sooooo smooth to my ears. The bass is present but not dominant, which is very good. The mid is so clean and no muddy. The high is not harsh at all. Guitars sound beautiful, piano is pleasant, drums are amazing clear with the kik, the sd, hh, and the toms sound crispy and solid. If you don't have a professional studio, at least give yourself this pair. I don't wanna say it's a must to have these since it's all subjective, but definitely will by another pair."

What Jonathan Said!

"Ditto, and even accurate and enjoyable with with Reveal+."

Alan S. (5/5)

I just found my new listening partner

"It’s pretty unusual for me to be so comfortable so quickly with any listening devices. Usually there’s a learning curve...a period when I need to get used to the sonic signature. I have a go to pair of headphones and a couple of alternates I use just for different perspectives. Well frankly I was sort of shocked by these. I put them on for the first time and prepared to listen to some of my favorite recordings and to my amazement, the sound was precisely what I was expecting, but with more detail and depth than I could have expected. The spectrum was balanced - low end full but not bloated and the top relaxed and revealing. So I decided to work on a track I just received from a client and while I would never call my work easy - with these headphones I had a sense of direction very quickly and could work with confidence. Minor changes were easy to detect, I was able to find just the right tonal adjustments and corrective EQ. Once done, I checked my work on my go to cans and the decisions were validated, but I believe I achieved greater finesse because of how revealing these are. I’ve tried other models and these are also the most comfortable headphones I’ve experienced from Audeze. Honestly once I started listening with these I didn’t want to stop. It was that pleasurable an experience. Thanks for making such a beautiful product."
