Inside Audeze #1

Massimo, a customer in Italy, emailed us a few weeks ago asking for pictures of the Audeze offices. We’ve had a few similar requests and so we decided to show you what we love doing here at Audeze. Here is a first in the series of Inside Audeze posts.

Our first design was the LCD-1. We used an off-the-shelf headphone and installed our own drivers, then showed the hybrid at CanJam 2009. The response was amazing and many Head-Fi enthusiasts encouraged us to make an even better headphone.

We started designing the LCD-2 in late 2009. Our initial driver and enclosure design for the LCD-2 was rectangular. After a number of renderings we showed the design to our trusted woodworker Jesse. Unfortunately he thought it would be too difficult to make.

We also wanted to make a simple headband that would be very comfortable and settled on a one-piece bent steel spring.

But that also proved too difficult to manufacture so it was back to the drawing board. Finally we came up with the current and comfortable design.

  Renderings of the revised design.

Audeze, Butterscotch Records, Touch Vinyl and UCLA Radio Host Event in LA

Audeze, Butterscotch Records, Touch Vinyl and UCLA Radio Host Event in LA

Mikael Jorgensen and Graph Rabbit perform live on February 22nd at 7pm

Audeze is teaming up with Butterscotch Records, and UCLA Radio  for a special event at Touch Vinyl in LA on Saturday, February 22nd.

The event centers around special high-end turntable listening stations organized for the event by Audeze. It’s an opportunity to hear LPs expertly cut by vinyl prodigy Alex Deturk (read the CNET article here).

At 7pm the dreamy, ambient-acoustic duo Graph Rabbit will play along with the electronic synth-jams of Mikael Jorgensen of Wilco.

“In the era of compressed MP3s and horrible earbuds dangling from phones, I’m thrilled that people will get a chance to hear our records in analog on some of the best turntables and headphones available,” said Allen Farmelo of Butterscotch Records.

“We’re vinyl junkies at Audeze,” said Alex Rosson, CEO of Audeze. “We love what Butterscotch Records and Touch Vinyl are doing and we’re honored to be a part of this.”

Join us Saturday, February 22nd, 1646 Sawtelle Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90025, telephone (310) 933-5540.

Balanced Cables for LCD-X and LCD-XC

At the end of January we had to ship some LCD-X and XC units without balanced cables due to supply issues. Our sincere apologies to those who found the cable missing. If you’re a customer who didn’t receive a balanced cable and would like one, please write to and include your serial number and proof of purchase.  We’ll work to ship you a free cable as quickly as possible.

The LCD-X and XC will once again ship with both sets of cables (single-ended and balanced) in the beginning of March.  We appreciate your patience and support.

Audeze Partners with Chris Milk at Sundance Film Festival

Famed Audio Visual designer Chris Milk debuts his groundbreaking Virtual Reality system at the Sundance Film Festival with audio partner Audeze. The ongoing Festival runs through January 26th.

The revolutionary virtual reality system, the first of its kind, opens the floodgates for VR technology that will forever change the way people experience music, film and live performance. The project was realized in conjunction with Oculus VR, 3d-io and automobile manufacturer Lincoln.

Alex Rosson, Audeze CEO, said: “We’re honored to provide the headphones that are part of this breathtaking virtual reality experience. Our participation reaffirms Audeze's commitment to dissolving the barrier between performer and audience by advancing the way art and media are perceived by the user."

Oculus Rift’s Virtual Reality system makes it possible to be onstage with Beck, immersed in exciting sound and vision, making it easy to suspend disbelief and be one with the music. You can choose to leave the stage and roam around the audience… VR technology radically transforms the concert experience.

Milk captured the reimagined 1977 David Bowie song “Sound and Vision” using newly-patented technologies like full spherical image capture and 360-degree binaural/multi-aural audio recording. Reengineered for a virtual reality platform, the user can experience the first live-action film for the Oculus Rift VR headset as never before.
